Why Organic Green Tea Is Superior Tea

Various independent studies have confirmed that green tea lowers the risk of developing various diseases, ranging from the chronic degenerative conditions to the simple infections. Its consumption is associated with reduced risk of developing osteoporosis, periodontal diseases, stroke, cancer and cardiovascular disease among many others. It is important to note that there are many varieties and types of green tea and all of them are not equal.

  • Introducing The Organic Tea:

The organic form of this tea, known as the organic green tea is the best and most superior of all. The term organic means that the tea is produced from leaves of tea plants grown without the use of any chemicals or toxins. Essentially, organic tea is grown without the use of fertilizers or pesticides and the leaves are harvested by hand. The fermentation of these leaves is done naturally and so there is no risk of getting harmful compounds or elements in the drink.

  • What Makes Green Tea a Superior Drink?

Flavonoids are the single most ingredients in green tea. In fact, the quality or superiority of the green tea depends on the levels of these health promoting ingredients against the content of the less healthy ingredients such as caffeine. The important ingredients are available in form of catechins and catechin derivatives. The most important of the catechins is epigallocatechin-3-gallate, commonly abbreviated as the EGCG. This is the ingredient which plays very important role in the antioxidant and cancer prevention benefits of green tea.

  • Processing Reduces Levels of Healthy Ingredients in Green Tea:

What distinguishes green tea from the other types of tea such as the black tea and the white teas is the processing. More processing has the effect of reducing the content and levels of catechins. The black tea has the lowest levels of catechins due to its intense processing. However, the catechin level in green tea vary depending on the processing, and also on the source of the green tea.
Green tea from Japan, known as the Matcha green tea, is believed to contain the highest ingredients of catechins. The best quality organic green tea leaves may contain as high as 127 milligrams of catechins before processing. Decaffeinated green tea may contain 56 milligrams, the flavoured green tea may contain about 43 milligrams while the bottled green tea may contain only 12 milligrams of the flavonoids known as catechins.

  • Buying The Best:

In order to reap the many health benefits if green tea, you need to buy from trusted sources. Japan Matcha green tea is believed to the best, and its organic form is the best. Ensure the tea is least processed and properly labelled, indicating country of origin and the date of manufacture and expiry.

  • Storing:

Green tea should be stored in a dark and dry place. Do not store in cold place such as refrigerator as this may introduce food odor and moisture to the tea.

  • A Trick For Testing The Freshness of The Tea:

If you want to test whether the green tea bags are fresh, remove the green tea powder from one of the bags then immerse the bag (not the tea) in boiling water. Leave it there for about 3 minutes. Taste the water. If it tastes like tea, this means flavour has already been transferred to the bag and it is not fresh. If the water does not tastes like tea (meaning it still tastes like water), these tea bags are fresh and you can trust them to boost your health!
